Once again I spent a weekend away at a wedding, but it’s my last until September. I love traveling it’s exhausting! Leading up to this weekend I decided I was ready to incorporate some real workouts into my routine again, despite my injuries. Thursday I did a total body circuit and some sprints which left me SORE Friday. Friday I decided I wanted to test out my knee and the gorgeous summer heat and humidity had been tempting me the last two days to go for a run so I decided to go for it! I ran just under 3 miles and it took me 29 minutes so I definitely took my time and just jogged at a very light pace for me. I was drenched in sweat just how I like to be after a run and I felt fantastic!
We left Friday morning on our 6+ hour trek to Asbury Park, NJ. I had forgotten my leftover pork tenderloin at home so I looked up supermarkets on Foursquare and found one with a deli where we got salads and a pound of turkey breast. Just because I’m on the road absolutely does not mean I’m going to eat fast food!!!! It’s simply not an option and sure, looking on Foursquare then maybe driving a little further or standing in line may take more effort, but this is my body and it’s worth that effort to treat it nicely.
By the time we arrived in Asbury Park we were very hungry and ready for dinner. If you have ever been to Asbury Park you know it’s definitely an eclectic place. Some parts are a bit sketchy, but near the beach is really cute and super nostalgic with old carousel buildings, cool artwork and trendy restaurants and bars. We were told to go one place that was just too loungy (and quite frankly too loud) to eat so we headed directly downstairs to Cubacan. And thank goodness we did because that was the best meal I have ever eaten, almost.
Ryan and I split angus and chorizo sliders, marlin tacos, fried plantains, snapper and mango ceviche and tuna and watermelon ceviche. Cuban food is often served as tapas, or small plates. I had a serious, SERIOUS foodgasm. My taste buds were elated and sad at the same time because I never wanted it to end. It was just the right amount of food. Hands down a cheat meal, but 100% guilt free!!!!!
Saturday morning Ryan and I enjoyed out oatmeal cooked with water from the coffee station in the lobby. I made mine with protein powder and flax, then a few prunes on the side just to make sure I could stay regular while traveling. We let our food settle then headed to the boardwalk to do this kick ass workout…
I had to make sure to do a very thorough warm up since my hamstrings and calves are both very tight from my workouts on Thursday and Friday, so we did a few jogs up and down the board walk.
After our workout we grabbed a grilled chicken salad from a cute little restaurant on the boardwalk then we got in some quality time poolside before heading to the wedding. While laying at the pool in my bikini, I was so hot and uninterested in food I allowed myself to just listen to my body and not force myself to eat, so as you can imagine I was starving at the wedding where i enjoyed a huge plate of beef tenderloin and veggies. Once again I didn’t bother with bread and I was too busy dancing to eat wedding cake, just like at the Hamptons wedding!
So tell me.. how do you stay on track when you have to travel?
Would you eat fast food or would you go to great lengths to avoid it?
Now here we are on Sunday night and while I had a fabulous time I’m pretty psyched next weekend I’m going to be home with my pup!!! Now I’ll leave you with a few shots from the weekend…
